On 7 June 2012 – activities organized by State Joint Stock Company Latvijas dzelzceļš (LDz)

  • In order to draw attention of the society and the mass media to safety on level crossings, SJSC Latvijas dzelzceļš in cooperation with the Latvian State Police, Road Traffic Safety Department and the world-class Latvian motorcyclists organized several activities on 7 June 2012.
  • The campaign took place at the busiest level crossings in Riga and Daugavpils (one of the largest cities of Latvia).
  • Press conferences were held at the level crossings in Riga and Daugavpils at the same time.
  • On the level crossing in Riga a demonstration of the collision between a train and a “human being” – a mannequin (weight: 80 kg, height: 1.85 cm) filled with a red filling – took place during the press conference https://vimeo.com/43595845
  • On the level crossings involved in the campaign (4 in Riga and 1 in Daugavpils) motorcycles and LDz flags were disposed. Sportsmen together with LDz and the Latvian State Police distributed booklets What you must know about acting safely at level crossings to drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.
  • in June within the framework of the traffic safety campaign informative booklets will be available in 26 units of Road Traffic Safety Department in Latvia.
  • In June the Latvian State Police will draw particular attention to behavior of people at level crossings, thus organizing spot checks and distributing informative booklets to drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.
  • During June three different campaign posters will be displayed at all railway stations and in domestic trains.
  • A month before 7th of June LDZ organized more than 25 safety classes in several towns of Latvia. During these classes children played games and watched animated films thus learning how to behave at level crossings. In total, safety classes were attended by 2500 children.
